MARCHING A MONTH AFTER MARCH
Talking about the sports day, it was the best sports day I have had (I guess) simply because I took part in one of the activities held, which is kawad kaki, or marching in English for my unit beruniform. That was my first time joining any formal march.
So, we started off the practice two weeks before the Sports Day. At first, I disagreed to join because I did not want to get tanned but after I thought about it for some time, I agreed to join since this year is my final year in high school, therefore I should use the chance to make it as part of my high school memories. On the first day of practice, we did not do much. Just a simple and basic moves in marching. Plus, not all of those who joined were there. The practice went well on the next day and so on. When there were enough people, we practiced our formation.
Move on to the sports day, all of us went to the stadium at a crack of dawn to practice for a few more times before marching in front of judges and spectators. I was so nervous that my armpit was sweaty even though the sun had not come out yet and it stained on my uniform and the stain was visible even from far. Ugh so embarrassing, you know!! After finished practicing for the last time, we gathered at the back of the stadium with other unit beruniform and got prepared to complete our full uniform with neck scarves, etc..
Right before the marching starts, guess what happened?!??!? There was a bird poop on my headscarf. I am not sure whether it was the sunblock lotion or bird poop, but if it was the sunblock lotion, how come it was on the upper part of my headscarf? I got so annoyed lol. Sweaty and wet armpit that stained my uniform. A bird poop on my headscarf. What more? It was hectic, not to mention that I was nervous at the time. Then, it was time for all of us to proceed to the front of the stadium. We marched, did our formation and marched again to stand still in front of everyone. It was blazing hot, I tell ya. I could barely see the spectators because I had to squint my eyes because of the sun.
Alright, let us move on to my most favourite part of the day, which is the marching winners announcement. My squad all gathered together and hugged each other in circle and waited for the announcement. We were all so nervous. Finally, we, Pandu Puteri were announced as the third place winner!!!!! I, myself was so happy and of course the whole squad were happy too. Our two-week practice were paid off with victory.
Individually, I was glad that I joined the march. It was a fun, enjoyable and memorable experience that I have carved in my memory. It was all worth the tiredness and the tan on my face. And I could barely studied for my exam during the two-week pratice because I was so exhausted. Not just me, but my friends too! All in all, it was a great experience that I might not be able to experience it again in the future. SO PROUD OF THE SQUAD 💚💙.
